A Columbia mailing address does not establish police jurisdiction. An event may belong to RCSD, Columbia Police, Forest Acres Police, a campus agency, or another state or federal force. Irmo and Columbia also cross county lines, so the booking and court may be outside Richland County. Use the agency named on the actual event record.

That request path is for RCSD-held material. Detention-center or general county records may instead belong in the Richland County FOIA channel.

Booking Logs and Recent Arrests

Richland County has no verified complete daily RCSD arrest blotter separate from the current-detainee query. Sheriff news releases cover selected events, not every arrest. The live ASGDC tool is useful for present custody but is not a permanent booking archive. Under S.C. Code §30-4-30(D)(3), documents identifying people confined during the preceding three months are available for in-person inspection under the statute's terms. Older booking material should be requested rather than assumed absent.

Timing is the chief trap. A new Richland County arrest may appear in the jail system before the court case is filed, and a later dismissal may take time to reach SLED. Richland Detention Data in Context

Official population figures can explain workload at Alvin S. Glenn, but they cannot identify today's detainees. A July 7, 2025 county report listed an adult population of 903 and cited bed space for 840 men and 112 women, with some spaces reserved for workers and weekender or work-release uses. The April 2025 average adult population was 904. These dated measures describe facility operations at that time. The difference between capacity and current-custody data is useful when reading jail information. A population report counts an institutional snapshot. Arrests Are Not Convictions

An arrest records an allegation and the fact of custody or enforcement action. A conviction requires a judgment of guilt after a plea or adjudication. The prosecutor may amend or decline charges, a grand jury may return no bill, or a court may dismiss or acquit. Read the final docket rather than drawing a conclusion from booking data.
